Home / Case Studies / EDWARDIAN OPEN PLAN

Based on a substantial extension to an Edwardian house in one of the rural home counties, our clients brief was to create a large open plan family and cooking environment. The centre piece of this was our trade mark bespoke large island, this time with a seating area for all the family so that all could comfortably be to be a part of the preparation and cooking process.

The main part of the kitchen was set with French farmhouse sink on the diagonal, and a substantial house keepers cupboard at one end, balanced by housed appliances on the return wall. The effect of this was to give a sense of energy and flow, designed with beauty and ergonomics in mind.

To add to this feeling of airiness and subtly, the stone chosen was River white granite, which was used on all the surfaces, including a large splash back panel behind an induction hob. Two shades of Little Greene paint were used to maintain the feeling of lightness throughout the scheme.

We were also commissioned to fit out the laundry to conceal all the appliances and boiler, additional hanging space for coats and bags.  An additional cloak room cupboard for the entrance hall was also created in the same style to keep the continuity of the scheme downstairs.
